About

The Background & Vision

My work is rooted in trauma-informed, culturally grounded, and harm-reduction approaches, shaped by my identity as a Cree and Dene Indigenous woman and Chilena. At its core, my practice is about creating spaces that feel welcoming, creative, and real, where healing doesn’t feel heavy or clinical.

A key part of my work is Indigenizing spaces in ways that are respectful, inclusive, and grounded. This means centring relationship, story, presence, and collective care, while honouring culture as something living and adaptable.

Rather than traditional workshops where people sit and listen, I focus on doing the work together. My sessions are active, hands-on, and relational, offering practical tools for emotional regulation, self-trust, boundaries, and connection that participants can practice in the moment. Everything is guided with flexibility, choice, and care, so people can participate in ways that feel right for their bodies, abilities, and energy levels.

My vision is to make healing and life skills accessible and inclusive, meeting people exactly where they are at. I believe learning should adapt to people, not the other way around. When spaces honour different bodies, capacities, cultures, and lived experiences, healing becomes more natural, meaningful, and even fun.

Essence Wandering Spirit is a Cree and Dene Indigenous woman, a band member of Salt River First Nation, and Chilena. She is a community facilitator and consultant, founder of The Essence of Spirit, and a third-year Bachelor of Social Work student in the University of Manitoba’s Inner City Program. Through 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕰𝖘𝖘𝖊𝖓𝖈𝖊 𝖔𝖋 𝕾𝖕𝖎𝖗𝖎𝖙, Essence offers trauma-informed, culturally grounded, somatic, and harm-reduction–informed experiences that support healing, self-expression, and empowerment. Her work is rooted in Indigenous and Latina worldviews, nervous-system awareness, and relational practice, creating spaces that feel embodied, safe, and accessible.

Essence has facilitated workshops and provided consultation across nonprofit and community settings with youth, adults, and seniors, including trauma-informed support for young women impacted by exploitation and gender-based violence. Her work is guided by the belief that healing and learning should be gentle, inclusive, and accessible, and that self-expression can be a powerful pathway back to self, community, and spirit.
